I love Christmas as much as my Mommy does!Happy Holidays! We had a very Merry Christmas and managed to get everything together in less than 10 days since our return from Kazakhstan. We did not go to cut our tree down this year, but instead bought a fresh one from a neighborhood tree stand. It was my personal record of picking a tree in under 10 minutes and we only went to 2 places! Michael was at work, and could not believe this, but Carolyn was my witness (those who know me well, know that picking a tree out at the tree farm is a major production!). On Christmas Eve we went to Mass and then to Timbuktu afterwards for Steak and Crabcakes/Stuffed Shrimp. I ordered calamari too, in honor of the Severino family tradition. We tracked Santa on Norad.com and even saw that he made some stops in Kazakhstan! We are terribly saddened not to be able to have the baby here for her first Christmas! I imagine they don't celebrate since Christmas is not an official holiday, so we guess it is like any other day at the orphanage (since Christmas is such a big deal for me, this is really hard for me). We hate that it is taking so long for our second trip and I have seriously considered going back alone ahead of time since I can fly stanby for a very nominal fee. Winter has definitely arrived in KZ! When I checked the weather widget on the blog sidebar it was -27 degrees in Karaganda--yes that is a minus (with the windchill of -41!!).
Despite the fact that we are missing the baby terribly, Christmas morning was great fun for all of us . It is such a magical time and brings us such joy to see the excitement and happiness in our our son's eyes. He received lots of nice things and was busy the rest of the day playing with it all! A few days before Christmas, he did inform us that he didn't need any presents this year, that Christmas was about Jesus, not presents. Needless to say, we were pleased, but rather suprised by his response. Then on Christmas Eve in Safeway, he asked to buy a birthday card for Jesus, which we promptly did. Ahhh, Catholic School!
We spent Christmas afternoon at Michael's parents to celebrate with them and then back home for our traditional ham dinner. It was a busy day! Keeping busy does distract us from the fact that Adelyn is not home yet. Christmas marks 1 month until our departure to get her! She did get a stocking which Santa filled and presents which she can open when she gets home. We can't wait to see you Suscha--Merry Christmas Baby!
